Clary named LexCath baseball coach

Kevin Clary, an assistant baseball coach at Lexington Catholic the last three years, has been promoted to head coach of the Knights.
Clary succeeds Rodney Martin, who stepped down a few weeks ago after 13 years at LexCath, including state titles in 1999 and 2006.
“I think Lexington Catholic is the premier program in the state,” Clary said. “Coach Martin did an unbelievable job managing the program and getting the kids to perform up to expectations. They always played hard for him, and they had a great respect for the game. We hope to continue that.”
Clary played baseball at Bryan Station (Class of 1985). His coaching background includes a stint as head coach of the Defenders from 1995-98, and as an assistant at Lafayette in 1992 and ‘93.
Clary, 41, has been a teacher at Jessie Clark Middle School for 17 years.
His baseball philosophy? “I believe in a very aggressive style of offense,” he said. “We’ll never sit and wait for a three-run homer. I like to call it a total offense approach. We’ll be aggressive when we need to be. We’ll hit-and-run a lot, and bunt-and-run. I like guys who can handle the bat.”
Brad Redmon and Tony Talbott, who were assistants under Martin, will stay on Clary’s staff.

I’ve know Coach Clary for several years…from Player’s Edge and Champions.
I would credit him soley for the success that my son, Brock, experienced in high school. He worked with him every fall and winter for about 5 years. I was so impressed with Coach Clary that we hauled my son 130 miles every weekend for instruction.
It paid off.
Coach Clary not only is a fantastic baseball man…he is just a great, great guy.
Congrats Coach Clary.
